A quick background. I am the person in charge of ordering logon/permissions for a number of our secure software applications.

This week I received a request for a logon change in terms of the name of the user. This is a long-time employee that, while she is in a different part of the state, I have known for about 8 years. So I approved the change and sent it up to the next level.

She happened to call me on another matter and I told her I had ordered her change, and said, "P...dare I ask what this name change is about?"

At first she was a bit reluctant, but finally blurted out: "After 28 years of marriage, I discovered a long-term affair, only to later discover there were many, many throughout our marriage." I gently told her my story. She opened up more, telling me how she had to file a restraining order because when she confronted her ex about the A, he beat her. She told me how the ex had used their college-aged son, telling him that he needed to borrow his apartment for a visiting friend, only to be caught.

This poor woman. She just lost her mother a couple of months ago and was dealing with this the whole time.

All I can say is that while it was painful for me, and brought back so many horrible memories and feelings I was holding back tears, I am glad I was able to be there for her and will continue to be if she needs me.

HoFS...it was so reminiscent of the day you tried to talk to my ex and the effort you made, only to be so emotionally exhausted after it was over.

So, HoFS, thank you again for your efforts back then. We all go thru some kind of reliving of "stuff" as we reach out to help others, I guess.
